May 08, 2013 48 Hour Film Adventure Last weekend, American Backstage became a movie set when Shotgun Shakespeare filmed their entry in the "48 Hour Film Project" at our store. It was great fun. Loads of our costumes ended up in the production, including our lion costume, a puppy, a pirate, some of our sassy burlesque wear, and lots of bunny ears. The finished film will debut tomorrow (Thursday, May 9th) at the AFI Silver Theater in Silver Spring. If it is selected for the "Best of" it will be screened again on Thursday, May 23rd. Rip was delighted to find that several of the cast members were old friends he had worked with on other productions. He was cast in a cameo role as a bartender, wearing a puppy costume. "It was ruff," he quips. "There I was, serving up the hair of the dog that bit them...." This is surely the DC area’s most creative film festival. The teams have literally 48 hours to plan, write, shoot, and edit a completed film! We opened the store at the crack of dawn on Saturday to be able to provide makeup, props and costumes to any of the film teams who needed them. Our staff had a blast watching the Shotgun Shakespeare team at work. Many thanks to Diane Williams for making it all happen. We hope to have some pictures soon.
